Semta works with Group Training Associations on particular
issues and are key partners in the delivery of Apprenticeships.
Semta has produced a list providing basic information and
contact details for all Group Training Associations and registered
centres for Scotland making it easier to obtain information and
assistance with training and careers in Engineering.
First established by groups of local employers in the 1960s,
there are now a total of 88 Engineering Group Training Associations
serving approximately 16,000 companies, which are estimated to
employ over 1 million people.
The majority of the Group Training Associations listed have
charitable status and while most groups still have core engineering
company membership and have maintained their engineering expertise,
their scope has broadened in line with training and business
demands. They offer a wide range of training provision and
services, mainly to SMEs, including NVQ assessment, advising on
workforce development and analysing training needs, providing
health and safety training and guidance, and management training,
within a very tight financial regime.
