Semta contribution to the higher education debate

Summary

The government is currently holding a debate on how the higher education system can continue to support the changing needs of the British economy and British people. They are particularly interested in what is key to the future success of HE, whether the range of courses is appropriate, how more flexible study can be offered at HE level, how postgraduate level study can be supported, and what is the actual role of a university from their local area to their international influence.

Semta View

Semta has submitted a formal response, which calls for universities to be supported to undertake more employer engagement, build capacity in those subjects which are key to companies in our sector (including a new ‘STEM spine’ of progression through science and technology subjects), and ensuring the HE ‘offer’ is right for the huge range of people who could potentially come through non-traditional routes.
