Inquiry - Teacher Training in Vocational Education (UK)

From: Skills Commission
Date published: 10 July 2009
Response
due: 31 August 2009

Summary

The inquiry will focus on the training practices for prospective and current teachers across schools, further education and higher education. All evidence broadly relating to the issues is welcomed. In particular the Commission invites evidence on the following areas:

  • Divisions and disparities between training requirements for school and further education teachers. Links between schools and further education institutions and employers.
  • Initial teacher training and continued professional development for teachers in vocational education.
  • Teacher training requirements for the new 14–19 Diplomas and other vocational qualifications.
  • Requirements for teacher training in vocational education in higher education.
  • Entry criteria for further education teachers and the potential for a ‘Teach Too’ model. This model would bring greater flexibility to vocational education teaching by allowing individuals to teach at the same time as having another job.
  • International comparisons of vocational education teacher training systems.
