The Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies

Consultation - Impartial Careers Guidance (England)

Date published: 7 May 2009
Response due: 30 July 2009

Summary

The Education and Skills Act 2008 requires schools to have regard to guidance issued by the Department of Children, Schools and Families when complying with their careers education and guidance duties.  Stakeholders are invited to comment on the draft guidance which has just been issued.  Semta considered the proposed guidance carefully.  It is essential that schools offer appropriate and accurate advice, based on the aspirations and abilities of the individual, and the needs of the economy as a whole.

We will be using the proposed guidance to shape the information which we provide on subjects such as engineering apprenticeships, and the new Diploma in Engineering.

Next steps

The statutory guidance was published in Autumn 2009.
