GCSEs
Working towards matching the outputs of education to employers’
expectations is an important part of Semta’s work.
Our membership of representative bodies and working parties has
helped us influence the school curriculum, including vocational
GCSEs in Engineering and Manufacturing.
Understanding qualifications
Click below to find out what each qualification contains and how
it fits in the qualifications system.
The information not only supports those who teach these
qualifications. It is a valuable resource for employers and those
advising young people about careers in science, engineering and
technology.

DIRECTIONS This booklet
is designed to help students approaching age 16 to consider their
next steps in engineering and science after GCSEs. It can also help
employers understand students’ options and how school
qualifications link to the world of work.
More Science
Science is compulsory for all students up to age 16. This leaflet
outlines the possible study options and what is on offer from the
different awarding bodies.
