Life Sciences Modern Apprenticeships in Scotland

The Life Sciences Modern Apprenticeship has been developed by Semta in consultation with employers and key partners in the sector, including the following Colleges: Adam Smith College; Dundee College; Forth Valley and Inverness, to produce a training programme which meets the needs of employers.

Routes for study have been developed for Laboratory Science, Animal Science, Scientific Manufacturing and further development will take place over the next year.  Due to the different options available employers/employees can choose to design an apprenticeship that meets their specific needs.

The Apprenticeships are available to school leavers, employees of school leaving age and above, including existing staff.  Employees will need to demonstrate to their employer that they have the potential to complete the programme to the required standard.

The Life Sciences Modern Apprenticeship Framework has been designed, through its pathway structure, with career progression in mind.  Candidates can build on their achievements and it is possible to progress from Technician to Technologist Pathway and eventually Assistant Scientist Pathway through greater and higher levels of working responsibility and educational achievement, up to a Science degree.
