Biography - Margaret Gildea

Margaret was appointed Executive Vice President of Human Resources – Operations and UK Employment and Skills Policy for Rolls-Royce in March 2005, with accountability for all aspects of HR strategy and implementation for gas turbine operations in the UK and professional HR support in Operations worldwide, and accountability for UK employment policy, skills policy and learning delivery.

 

She joined Rolls-Royce in 1978, initially in Employee Relations and has carried out specialist and generalist HR roles in a number of Rolls-Royce businesses. From 1993 to 1998 she was responsible for the Company’s UK training centres and for the delivery of training for employees. In 1998 the Company’s reorganisation provided Margaret’s next challenge as HR Director for Operations where, as a member of the Operations Executive team, she provided functional leadership and direction for the HR Directors and their teams during a period of significant change. Four and a half years later, in August 2002, she became Director of Career Development, and became Director of Learning and Career Development on 1 January 2003.

 

Prior to joining Rolls-Royce, Margaret worked for a small engineering Company, where she was responsible for personnel and factory logistics.

 

She was born in 1954 in Yorkshire and was educated at Todmorden Grammar School and Girton College, Cambridge, where she obtained a first class honours degree in English. She also has an MBA from Loughborough University.

 

Margaret is on the Board for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies (SEMTA), the SEMTA Appointments and Remuneration Committee and a Governor at Chellaston Technology School.

 

Margaret is married with three daughters. Her interests include sailing, walking, drama, reading, and writing revues and musicals.
