Semta supports ELC in common aim
Semta, the Sector Skills Council
for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies, welcomes
the annual report from the Electronics Leadership Council and
congratulates the ELC on its work and achievements in its first
year.
As the report acknowledges, skills development is critical to
the growth and prosperity of the electronics sector and an issue on
which Semta is focusing in partnership with the ELC and other
stakeholders.
Lynn Tomkins, Semta’s UK Policy Director, said: “We have worked
closely with electronics employers through the electronics Sector
Strategy Group to develop our Sector Skills Agreement for the
electronics sector and the eSSG continues to influence the
implementation of the Agreement. Electronics is one of the first
priority sectors for the National Skills Academy for Manufacturing
which will tackle priorities identified in the SSA, including
boosting productivity and competitiveness and improving management
and leadership.”
Led by Semta, with support from top employers, The National
Skills Academy for Manufacturing will serve the needs of the many
SMEs and micro businesses that make up the electronics sector and
play a vital role in the supply chains of larger organisations. It
will give easy access to quality-assured programmes delivered by
accredited training providers.
Input from electronics employers has also ensured that the new
Engineering Diploma for 14-19 year olds, whose development has been
led by Semta, contains electronics options that will both stimulate
young people and reflect the needs of employers in that sector.
“The ELC and Semta have a common aim: to raise the skills levels
in the electronics sector to enable businesses to make the fullest
possible contribution to the UK economy,” Tomkins added. “We value
our relationship with the ELC and look forward to it continuing and
developing for mutual benefit.”
