DIUS launch new publication
It's Time to Talk Training
The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills
have recently launched a new publication 'It's Time to Talk
Training'. The publication is aimed at encouraging more and better
dialogue between employers and their employees on training and
skills, which will help ensure that both employer and employee
reap the maximum benefit from their investment in
skills.
DIUS worked with the CBI, the TUC and BERR to produce the
publication, which uses real life examples of effective dialogue to
show different ways in which employers can engage with their
employees about investing in skills. The document uses examples
from organisations of different types and sizes, and where
different models of employee engagement are in place. The case
studies identify the tangible benefits which dialogue brings to the
business and to the people it employs.
DIUS are also currently seeking views on proposals for a new
right to request time to train, which would give most employees in
England a legal right to ask their employer for time to undertake
relevant training. These proposals are also designed to encourage
and support a serious dialogue between employees and their
employers about the skills training that will help both to realise
their full potential. The consultation will run until 10th
September and can be found on the DIUS
website.
Electronic copies of the publication are available on
the BERR
website. Additional hard copies can be obtained from
the BERR Publication Orderline on 0845 015 0010.
