Public consultation events on the Advanced Level Diploma in Science

9th February – 4th May 2010

The Diploma in Science is an exciting new qualification for 14-19 year olds being designed to give young people a foundation in scientific theory and the practical skills necessary to meet the global challenges of tomorrow. 

Developed in partnership with employers, education and key stakeholders the Diploma will provide students with the confidence and enthusiasm to pursue careers involving science either directly through work or additional qualifications.  The Diploma in Science will provide:

  • work-related learning
  • a multidisciplinary approach to problem-solving
  • innovative teaching, learning and assessment
  • a focus on practical/investigative work to develop scientific and mathematical skills

A 12 week public consultation is due to take place on the Advanced Level Diploma in Science Line of Learning Statement (the Vision).  The consultation period will run between 9th February and 4th May 2010.  Participants will be able to either attend a regional consultation event or to complete an online survey.

Representatives from awarding bodies, colleges, schools, universities, employers and other organisations interested in shaping the new Diploma in Science are invited to participate in the consultation.
